Just a quickie "breaking news" update.
After only about 2 days of balloting, we have a new Pope:
Cardinal Ratzinger of Germany was elected as Pope early Tuesday morning. Cardinal Ratzinger took the name Pope Benedict XVI. Ratzinger had worked with Pope John Paul II since 1981 and served as the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
For many, this was the first time they had ever seen the process of a Pope being elected and confusion reigned supreme this morning. Smoke poured out of the Sistine Chapel chimney early Tuesday but the color was unclear. Once the smoke became thicker and obviously lighter in color, a cheer erupted from the many standing vigil outside St. Peters Square and many rushed into the plaza to await the arrival of the new Pope.
White Smoke = new pope!
Bells then began tolling and before long Pope Benedict XVI arrived at the window and gave his first blessing to the crowd below.
Truly a historic moment and it will be intersting to see what happens to the Catholic Church now and what direction Pope Benedict takes them in.
Well, TWO count em TWO updates in one day!! I'm gettin better!! hehehe...Til the next time we meet
