Thursday Misc

Hello one and all! Welcome back to the Drill. Sorry for the slow update week. Truth is, I've had like zero time to update. I had so many things to write about (NFL playoffs, Golden Globes, etc) and I never got a chance to put it down. Sorry about that. Rather than rehash old news, i figured I'd just move on and give you guys a grab bag update today. So lots of random news in this one. Sit back and enjoy.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Update

Yeah, thats right Magic Mountain. Havent done one of those, but then again Magic Mountain hasnt really had any newsworthy things happen lately. Thats all changing now though with the arrival of its 17th roller coaster named "Tatsu". Tatsu is a brand new state of the art "flying" coaster. What this means is, that you are strapped in at an angle so that when the ride starts your arms and feet are dangling freely as if you are "flying" Superman style. Thats right: face down. Here's a promotional poster for the ride:

The ride is being built high atop the park in the "Samurai Summit" area next to "Ninja". Because it is being custom built for Magic Mountain the ride is being integrated into the landscape of the mountain. So expect to be "flying" between trees, over trees and alongside "Revolution". The rides will actually cross paths on several turns and give the illusion of a collision.

The teaser preview can be seen here.

It looks awesome and I cant wait to ride it. I've included some construction pictures below:

As you can see the ride will be located right next to Ninja (Photo courtesy of David Lane)

"Tatsu" takes flight Spring of 2006. (Yes that was my lame marketing tag line..I swear I dont work for them..anymore. ;-))

Spider-Man 3 News

Well, this film is still about a year away, but the news keeps coming and the latest news is that Bryce Dallas Howard has signed on to play "Gwen Stacy". Stacy, in the comic books, is Peter Parker's first true love who dies as Spider-Man tries to save her from the Green Goblin. In the movie however, Stacy will be the third point of a love triangle between Peter and Mary Jane Watson. It'll be interesting to see what Howard looks like when (or if) she dyes her hair blond to match her character.

 Bryce and Gwen

Spider-Man 3 begins shooting later this month and will be released May 4th, 2007. Cant wait to see the first publicity shots for Venom (Played by Topher Grace) and Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church). Not to mention the fact that James Franco is reprising his role of Harry Osbourne and is rumored to be playing the Green Goblin II in this one. Wow, 3 super villans in one movie? They're going all out for this "final" film arent they? ;-)

Some Superman Returns Tidbits

Did anyone see when Brandon Routh presented at the Golden Globes on Monday night alongside former Lois Lane, Terry Hatcher?

Routh and Hatcher at the 2006 Golden Globes

His resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve is amazing!

Warner Bros released some more publicity photos

Mirror image. Is it me or does he look like Dean Cain here? ;-)

A quick note about my "Superman (Finally) Returns" story (Thanx to all of you for the kind words regarding the story) I found something else out about Tim Burton's version of "Superman". Apprently, Burton already had someone in mind to play Lex Luthor when production was shut down. None other than Johnny Depp!!

Picture him bald..that wouldve been a trip!

That wouldve been an interesting casting choice, thats for sure. I cant help but wonder what kind of Lex Luthor, Johnny Depp wouldve made. I guess we'll never know.

Random Thoughts

-Good to see Shaq and Kobe finally getting somewhat along.

Peace at last??

Lets just see if it was for real or for show

-The first ever World Baseball Classic will be held this March at various locations around the world. Teams from 16 countries will compete to become baseball's first every true World Champion. Countries include, USA (duh), Mexico, Japan, Italy (what the???), China, The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and more. I cant help but feel that the US team isnt going to fare that well. The best players are no longer from here, but from other countries. Had they held this tournament like 5 or 6 years ago the US wins hands down. But now, the tide is turning. Should be a fun tournament to watch.

-Through a friend at Warner Bros I have in my possesion the script for the abandoned "Superman vs Batman" movie. I didnt really talk about this in my "Superman (Finally) Returns" series because I really didnt have that much info on it other than the fact that the director of "Troy" and "The Perfect Storm" (Wolfgang Petersen) had pitched the idea to Warner Bros. However the logistics just never came together and Peterson ditched the idea.  I didnt even know it had made it to script til now. I'll be reading it over the next few days and give you a indepth review sometime next week.

Well that will do it for now. I've got more to write about, but that will have to wait for the next update. Stay tuned for info regarding "Rocky VI" (Including the first pics) and the rumored Disney takeover of Pixar.  Til the next time
