Hello everyone and welcome back to the drill!! Hope you all had great weekends! Lets get to it.
Super Bowl XL Thoughts
Well, another Super Bowl in the books and what do you know? I got it right! ;-)
Winning coach Bill Cower gets the "bath" after the Steelers Super Bowl victory
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in a game that was fast at some points and dragged at others. The game was not without controversy however, as many questionable calls went against the Seahawks.
Now THATS loyalty. A Seahawks fan sits alone after the game.
Controversy or not, Seattle's inability to get their offense going sealed their fate. Many people thought Seattle would give Pittsburgh a run for its money and pull off the upset, but it was not to be.
As expected, Steelers' running back Jerome Bettis called it quits after the Super Bowl.
Who says dreams dont come true? Jerome Bettis holds the Super Bowl trophy
With this championship, Pittsburgh now has five Lombardi Trophies. That would tie them with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49'ers for most in the NFL.
So another NFL season ends and we have a new champion. Can the Steelers make it two in a row next season? I guess we'll find out in year. ;-)
Super Bowl Commercials
There were a few that stood out this year, but not as many as in the past. The Ameriquest "Dont Judge" spots were hilarious. The Sprint "Crime Deterrent" commercial was a good one also. Also the Budweiser ads were well done. I still miss the Bud Bowl commercials however. ;-)
Harry Potter Movie News
Principal photography began today on "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", the fifth movie in the Harry Potter franchise. After the smash success of the last Harry Potter film ("Goblet of Fire" has grossed $286 million as of this writing) you can bet the stakes will be high for this one. Joining the usual regulars for this film are Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbdridge
Umbridge is one of the most hated Harry Potter characters.
And unknown actress Evanna Lynch has landed the role of the quirky Luna Lovegood
"Loony Luna!! Loony Luna!!" ;-)
This film isnt scheduled to release til June 2007 and hopefully the wait will be worth it.
WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
Camella Belle in "When A Stranger Calls"
1)When A Stranger Calls, $21.6 million: Another remake of a horror movie, "Stranger" has been hyped up for weeks now. A solid opening for what is normally a slow time for movies (Super Bowl Weekend). It exceeded studio estimates that had it pegged at anywhere between $12-$15 million. I dont think it will keep the top spot next week however.
2) Big Momma's House 2, $13.6 million: It drops down a notch, but that was expected. With the lack of comedies in theatres, this one might make some good money after all.
3) Nanny McPhee, $9.7 million: See above and replace "comedies" with "family films" ;-)
4) Brokeback Mountain, $6.0 million: The Post Award Show Bounce continues for this film. As it rakes in the awards, more and more people continue to be drawn to the film. If the word of mouth/curiosity continues to be strong for this, we might see it take a the top spot in this weak movie going time.
5) Hoodwinked, $5.3 million: See number 2 but replace "comedies" with "animated films". Seriously, this film wasnt expected to hang around and yet it's stuck in the top 5. The quality of the animation isnt going to win anybody over, but the story and jokes will.
Well, that will do it for this edition. Here's to a great week ahead! Til the next time
