What Happens When Your Anniversary Is Over?
As Disneyland's 50th Anniversary winds down, you might be wondering what's gonna happen next.
The plan so far is to end the 50th Celebration on October 1st. That will give them 1 month to start prepping the park up for the Christmas time season.
The "Remember..Dreams Do Come True" Fireworks show will more than likely have its final performance on Oct 1st as well. So that means that the "Believe..In Holiday Magic" show should be returning this year.
The "Parade of Dreams" MAY continue to run until the Christmas Parade takes over in late November.
Now all these plans are preliminary. Things change alot in Disney and right now they are split as to whether or not to extend the 50th Anniversary stuff.
One of the main reasons they want to end it, is to help ease the crowds down a tad before the Christmas season. If you remember last years Christmas season, the crowds were out of control and forced the closure of Disneyland on several occasions. (For more on that, check out the archives section)
However, seeing how successful this whole celebration has been money wise, they might just keep it going til Jan 07.
We'll see how it plays out in the next few months. If I were you however,I would start grabbing up all that 50th Anniversary stuff now as they plan to slowly phase out the merch. this summer.
Yo-Ho..Yo-Ho A Movie Premier For Me!!!
Although no official announcement has been made, Disneyland's operating schedule was quietly changed for June 24th. On this day, Disneyland would normally be open from 8am- 11pm or later. However, its time has been changed to 630am- 5pm! The same schedule that was used when "Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl" premiered at the park back in 2003!! All signs point to "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" premiering on June 24th at Disneyland this year. I'll have more info for you once it is confirmed
A Legend Passes Away
I didnt include this on Monday's update, but I didnt want to NOT write about it. Monday afternoon, Kirby Puckett one of the all time greats in Major League Baseball passed away after suffering a stroke. He was 45.
Puckett, whose career was cut short in 1996 because of glaucoma in his right eye, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.
A 10 time allstar and all around good guy, his infectious spirit and all out hustle play inspired his teammates and opponents alike.
He will always be remembered for being the face of the Minnesota Twins, the only team he ever played for.
Puckett once said "I want you to remember the guiding principles of my life," he said. "You can be what you want to be. If you believe in yourself and you work hard, anything – and I'm telling you anything – is possible …"Good-bye "Puck", you left the field and this world far too early.
The Truth Comes Out: Barry's Been Juicing
So after years of speculation, the truth about Barry Bonds' amazing run at baseabll history comes out.
According to an upcoming book written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters, Bonds used a vast array of performance-enhancing drugs -- steroids, human growth hormone, insulin -- for at least five seasons beginning in 1998.
An excerpt from "Game of Shadows," which lays out extensive details of the slugger's alleged doping program, appears in the March 13 issue of Sports Illustrated
Authors Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, who led the newspaper's coverage of the BALCO scandal, recount in remarkable detail the specifics of Bonds' drug regimen, which they write started in 1998.
Now, there are those who will argue that Bonds didnt do anything illegal since he started taking steroids when they werent banned from baseball (The MLB drug policy didnt take effect until 2003). But the point is, he CHEATED and doesnt deserve to have his name in the record books
Bonds has yet to react to the book or the accounts listed inside, but if he remains silent, not only is he making himself look bad, but also his team and the game itself.
If he had any honor or pride left, he should announce that he will not play this season and retire. There's just no covering up what he did and no middle ground. Unless he wants the scrutiny and the fact that he will be a distraction to his team whenever he steps out on that field he should leave the game immediately.
OK, that will do it for this edition. Be back again soon, with more Two Minute goodness.. Til then
