Taboo Tuesday

Welcome back to the Drill!! Today's update is a bit of a construction picture bonanza!! Hope you enjoy it!!

Dodger Stadium Construction (Update!!)

We're 20 days away from Opening Day, and work is nearing completion at Dodger Stadium. Below are more shots of the project.

The baseline box seats

A close up of the seats. I'm diggin that table

Dodgers Owner Frank McCourt, said in an interview this weekend that there will be a new picnic area installed at Dodger Stadium as well. Below are shots of the construction of the picnic area.

It will be located by the third base entrance of the Lodge level. The picnic area will accomodate 500 fans and have a park-like feel to it. So it looks like after all these years, there's finally going to be a place for fans to meet and greet and to have little tailgate parties.

Tatsu Construction @ Magic Mountain

The Worlds "Tallest and Fastest" flying coaster continues to take shape at Magic Mountain. Below are some shots of the progress. (All photos couresty of David Lane)

Tatsu looms over the entrance.

This is the first drop. It actually hangs over the area around "Roaring Rapids"

Another look at the construction site

Tatsu is still scheduled to open in late Spring. I would say early May, based on the pictures I see here. Also, if you're planning on going to Magic Mountain soon, I would say now is the best time to go. Crowds are usually light around this time of year. Of course the park is only open til 6pm, so that might be the main reason why. ;-)

Japan's Tower of Terror

I've never been to the Tokoyo Disneyland Resort and dont know of anyone who would be going soon, but I had to include these pictures in here, because it is quite possibly one of the most beautiful theme park structures ever built. Check out Tokoyo Disney Seas' version of the Tower of Terror.

Look at the detail in this sucker!

It is not themed around the "Twilight Zone" as it is here in the states. No, this "Tower" has its own unique story surrounding a millionaire. Here is the official story surrounding the ride:

The story takes place in 1912, in the old "Hightower Hotel." Billionaire Harrison Hightower III the owner was a collector of old archeological relics. During his lifetime, he explored lot of exotic countries to locate ancient relics to bring back home. Once he returned, the hotel was his favorite place to display all his archeological treasures. He liked to tell the stories of how he got them, and obviously, this adventurer was sometimes a little unscrupulous as to how he appropriated some of these items. No matter how he obtained his ancient treasures, the parties he organized to unveil the latest additions to his collection were always a big draw to all the jet-setters and journalists.

The view from the "American Waterfront" area of the park. I love the pun on the store sign "Tower of Taler" (tailor)

The day before New Years Eve 1899, during a party he organized to show a strange statue he found in a far-away Africa, Hightower suddenly disappeared as he was heading up to his penthouse on the last floor. No one ever saw him again. The hotel was quickly closed, and an aura of mystery, which only fed the public's curiosity, keep growing about it. Because of its unique architectural and historical interest, the "New York City Conservation Company" finally decided to re-open the hotel for guided tours. Visitors would again be able to see lot of Hightower's collectibles, such as the old temple relics, or a 3000-year-old Egyptian sarcophagus.

I'm thinking if they put that much detail into the outside of the building, can you imagine what the inside is going to look like?

Cant wait to see the first pictures of that.

Weekend Box Office Report

"Failure to Launch"

1) Failure to Launch, $24.4 mil: Sarah Jessica Parker's post "Sex in the City" career continues to flourish with her second "solid" opening. No real "romantic comedy" movies out right now, so this film has that genre all to itself.

2)The Shaggy Dog, $16.3 mil: Disney just LOVES those remakes doesnt it? Of course, this one of the few remakes that didnt have Lindsay Lohan in it. ;-) Not a bad opening, but nowhere near as good as Tim Allen's "The Santa Clause" openings have been.

3)The Hills Have Eyes, $15.7 mil: The weekends other big film. Funny how the the three new films openend in the top 3. I guess people were hungry for new things and didnt want to give the holdovers a chance.

4)16 Blocks, $7.4 mil: Drops two spots from last week. Bruce Willis hasnt had a big blockbuster (Not countin "Sin City") in a while. Gotta wonder if he still has box office potential.

5)Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion, $5.7 mil: Still doing pretty good business. Tyler Perry is making a name for himself in motion pictures. Be on the lookout for more "Madea" films in the not so distant future.

OK, that will do it for this update. Here's to another week of Two Minute Drill goodness. ;-)
